Joy's Rockside House is picturesquely ensconced at the foot of the Rock of Cashel. Set on a quiet side street, it is just around the corner from bustling Cashel town. Its perfect situation makes it an ideal place to stay for those wanting a peaceful in-town experience and a great "base" to see all the wonderful sights and attractions nearby. There are many things to see and do in the Cashel area along with plenty of short drives. Locally there's the Rock of Cashel, the Cashel Palace Hotel (formally
Archbishop's Residence), Hore Abbey, Athassel Priory, Domnicks Abbey and Folk village, the Bolton Library with its smallest book in world, Bru Boru show and underground for history of music. Scenic drives include the Vee & Glen of Aherlow just to name a few. Not far is Cahir Castle, the Swiss Cottage, Holy Cross Abbey with the relic of the true Cross, Mitchelstown Caves, Coolmore Stud Farm and many arts & crafts centers. Rem and Joan Joy delight in welcoming guests to their special home and sharing their fount of knowledge about the area and history of the town. They are always happy to provide a cup of tea in the cozy sitting room and share information and tips on dining, day trips and local entertainment. Guests are greeted in the pretty foyer with its floral carpet and pine staircase. A hall table with mirror over it is enhanced with a Belleek lamp and fresh flowers. Pictures accent the walls. Bedrooms are utterly comfortable with oatmeal colored carpeting and orthopedic beds made up with lovely floral comforters. They are light and airy with a country cottage charm while at the same time remaining unfussy. Each pastel colored room has a wardrobe, TV and tea and coffee maker. A vanity desk with mirror and chair, bedside chests with reading lamps and a hair dryer round out the amenities. Pictures and colorful drapes add to the meticulous & cheery atmosphere. The fully tiled bathrooms are sparkling clean and have glass-enclosed showers. Some rooms have spectacular views of the Rock. The lounge's picture windows also overlook the Rock. The homey décor includes floral carpeting and pine sofas and chairs upholstered in a soft rose color. A curio cabinet displays collectibles and photos and prints of the area enhance the furnishings. It is just the right place for guests to have a spot of tea, relax and plan their itineraries, gather with other guests or just sit back and watch TV. A hearty Irish breakfast is served in a bright dining room that has a terra cotta tile floor. Floral drapes frame a view of the Rock and Irish artwork adorns the walls. Individual tables are set with linens and guests can serve themselves to a buffet of cereal, juices and scones from the pine sideboard. The breakfast menu includes traditional Irish favorites and also pancakes with maple syrup and fruit. The Joys have done a superb job renovating an old building into one of the best B&Bs in Cashel. Rockside's perfect location and delightful aspect makes it an ideal place to stay in County Tipperary's golden vale. Private off-street parking is available.
The house is Non-Smoking. Excerpt with permission from the book "Michele
